Celtic in the Community's 'Train and play the Celtic Way' holiday courses and participation centres have provided quality coaching to over 1.5 million kids, youths and adults throughout Scotland and Ireland, in some cases providing the only access that kids have ever had to qualified coaches. It is important that we continue to feed the grass roots of the game, and our Academy project recognises this.
The Community programme has progressed over 300 players into the Celtic Development Centre Programme for talent players and 8 have actually progressed into the Academy itself.
In the past 15 months the Community Programme has progressed over 70 youngsters into Development Centres and 4 have already made it into the Academy itself.
These youngsters have come through the “Train and play the Celtic way” programme and deserve a massive pat on the back for the way they have used the lessons they have learned in their holiday courses and participation centres to advance their skills. They have all done so well that the Community coaches have recommended them for advancement along the player pathway.
They are the proof that the youth system is working. We hope it won't be too many years before we see some of these kids making their debut for Celtic. While the Community Programme is not the only way into the Academy it is certainly a valuable and fun way of getting there.
We would encourage all youngsters to get involved and learn to “Train and play the Celtic way”.
The more that get involved, the greater the chance of finding and developing the best talent for the Celtic's future.
