Quite simply, Tommy Gemmell had it all – he is undoubtedly one of the best full-backs to ever represent Celtic.

He could attack, he could defend and packed a shot that scared the best goalkeepers in the world.

He scored in each of Celtic’s two European Cup finals –
grabbing the equaliser against Inter Milan in 1967 – and was proclaimed to be “the best left-back in the world” by his manager Jock Stein.

For a defender, his goal record of 64 in 418 Celtic appearances is impressive – helped by his deadly penalty-kick taking. Of the 34 he hit, only three were unsuccessful.

The winner of countless medals at Celtic, Tommy Gemmell remains an all-time great.
