The midfielder joined from Hibernian in May 2007 in the biggest ever transfer between two Scottish clubs. He made a total of 142 appearances for Hibernian in five years as a first team player, scoring 21 goals and helping them win the CIS Cup in 2007.
It was Gordon Strachan who brought Brown down the M8 and made him a Celtic regular, pushing him into a more defensive midfield role, which he was not as used to having played off the strikers at Hibs.
But Brown adapted to the new position and began to establish himself in the Hoops. Tony Mowbray handed the Scotland internationalist the captain's armband following the departure of Stephen McManus in January 2010 but it was the first season under Neil Lennon which really stamped his authority on the new look squad.
Playing on the right side of midfield, Brown showed flashes of the attacking prowess he enjoyed during his Hibs days, but for the following two seasons he was moved back into the centre of the pitch where he dictated the pace of the game.
Known for his drive, determination and passion on the pitch, he is one of the most valuable players in the current squad.
